Student Life
At the heart of everything we do are our students, their growth, well-being, and success guide every decision we make. From counseling and health services to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) supports and everyday classroom experiences, our focus is on helping each child feel safe, supported, and ready to thrive. We’re committed to nurturing not only strong learners, but confident, compassionate young people prepared for whatever comes next.
Counseling
We know that a child’s emotional well-being is the foundation for everything they do. From making a new friend on the playground to tackling a tough math problem, our Elementary School Counseling program is here to ensure that every student feels safe, happy, and supported.
Health Services
Our Certified School Nurses work hand-in-hand with parents, staff, and local providers to ensure every child is supported, safe, and ready to learn.
Student Services
Our Special Education and Student Services team is here to ensure that every student has the tools, support, and encouragement they need.
At Washington Elementary, We Are Welcoming, Empowered, and Safe & Scholarly
At Washington Elementary, creating a positive school climate is a shared commitment. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework helps students develop strong social skills, build responsibility, and contribute to a safe, supportive learning environment for everyone.
Our School-Wide Expectations: W.E.S.
Washington Elementary students are encouraged to be W.E.S. throughout the school day by demonstrating three core expectations:
- We Are Welcoming - Being welcoming means greeting others in a warm and friendly manner: being kind, polite, and courteous. At WES, students are encouraged to include others, use kind words and tone, and respect differences in every space throughout the building.
- We Are Empowered - Being empowered means having the knowledge, confidence, and ability to make smart decisions for yourself. Empowered students are problem solvers who take responsibility for their actions, advocate for themselves and others, and stay accountable.
- We Are Safe & Scholarly - Safe students protect the community by keeping their hands to themselves, using equipment correctly, and looking out for one another. Scholarly students stay focused, listen attentively, and always give their best effort.
These expectations are taught, modeled, and reinforced consistently by staff across classrooms, common spaces, and school activities.

Recognizing Positive Choices
When students are caught being welcoming, empowered, safe, or scholarly, they earn a Scholar Dollar, which is our way of recognizing and celebrating great choices in action. Here's how it works:
- A staff member presents a student with a Scholar Dollar and explains why they earned it.
- The student writes their name on the dollar and places it in the clear collection container available in any classroom.
- Every Thursday, Scholar Dollars are collected for a chance to win fun prizes, and teachers can win prizes too!
Scholar Dollars are a community celebration. When our students succeed, we all succeed!
